A game for 2-4 players

== Object ==
Get four pieces of the same size in a row. The large counts as a piece of either small or medium size.

== Materials required ==
* A chessboard
* For each player, five smalls, four medium, and one large piece, of their chosen color(s).

If you have three [[Treehouse]] sets, you can use the following color pairings for a two player game: red and yellow, blue and green. If you have one [[Pyramid Arcade]], you can use the following pairings: blue and purple, green and cyan, red and orange, yellow and clear. Or whatever makes sense to the players at the table.

== Setup ==
Set the board down on the table. Each player takes all of the pieces of their color(s).

== Play ==
The first player places a small in one of the sixteen interior spaces (any space two or more spaces from the edge of the board). There are no restrictions on subsequent piece placement.

On a player's turn, they may do one of the following:

* Place a small in any unoccupied space. Optionally, remove two of their own mediums (or one medium and the large) from spaces adjacent to the newly placed small.
* Place a medium in any unoccupied space. Remove two of their own smalls (or one small and the large) from spaces adjacent to the newly placed medium.
* Place the large in any unoccupied space. Remove two of their own mediums from spaces adjacent to the newly placed large.
* Move the large one space to any unoccupied adjacent space. Remove one of their own mediums from a space adjacent to the new location.

Adjacent may be horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and always means spaces adjacent to the one the place was newly placed in (or in the case of the large, moved to).

=== Placement ===
Once a large is on the board it is considered "wild", and counts as a medium or a small for all purposes (both removal and four-in-a-row).

A medium or large piece must be placed in a space that is adjacent to two of its owner's smalls (or one small and one large) or mediums, respectively. That player then removes the adjacent pieces from the board and returns them to their stash. You can only do this if you have a piece of the appropriate size remaining, or if the removal of the pieces from the board gives you a piece of the appropriate size.

Moving the large: The large piece may be moved to an adjacent space; effectively, you are "removing" two mediums, one of which is the (wild) large. The only way to initially get the large onto the board is to remove two mediums.

Passing a turn: If a player does not have any smalls left, they must remove two smalls (or a large and small) to place a medium, or must remove two mediums (or a large and medium) to place a large. If they are unable to do either of these things, they must pass, but may continue in the game if they can make a play on a subsequent turn.

== Ending the game ==

=== Win ===
A player wins if they get four pieces of the same size (small or medium) in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). The large may substitute for a piece of either small or medium in this four-in-a-row.

A player also wins if they are able to move, but no other player is; if that player makes a move that opens up the board for another player to play (either by choice or necessity), the game continues.

=== Lose ===
A player who is unable to move because they are entirely out of pieces loses.

=== Draw ===
If all players are unable to make moves, whether or not they are out of pieces, the game ends in a draw.
